Lynn Cheney doth protest too much

Party mouthpiece Washington Times takes a whack at Kerry for mentioning Mary Cheney. Here's what Kerry said:

KERRY: We're all God's children, Bob. And I think if you were to talk to Dick Cheney's daughter, who is a lesbian, she would tell you that she's being who she was, she's being who she was born as.

The big meanie.

I am completely ok with Kerry bringing up the fact that the Cheney's have a gay daughter. It throws a harsh light on the fact that the GOP is willing to sacrifice their own families on the altar of their ideology.

If Lynn Cheney loved her daughter she would say something affirming about her - not take offense that someone said she was being who she was born to be. For heavens sake Ms. Cheney - It's ok that your daughter is gay. You don't have to be ashamed.

What is it exactly that Ms. Cheney, and other republicans, are upset about? It isn't privacy, that's for sure. It must be (ahem) gayness.

ps.Salon does a great job writing about the reaction of the gay community.

Don't say Lynn Cheney doesn't love her daughter or she would say something affirming about her being a lesbian. Mother's can have a hard time with anything their children do or are..its natural.

That's a fair comment. I didn't mean to pass judgement on The Vice President or Ms. Cheney. I guess I am just pointing out that the Cheney's outrage seems more political than sincere. It isn't very loving to take offense at your daughter's identity. But I was wrong to set up an "...if Ms. Cheney loved her daughter..." scenario. I am sure she does love her. But she is using her in a worse way than Kerry did.

Why aren't the Cheney's excited that Republican Senatorial Candidate, Alan Keyes, referred to their daughter as a hedonist and sinner? You didn't hear one word of protest from the V.P. or Lynn from their precious Republican cohort.
Mrs. Cheney wants an apology from Sen. Kerry. Great! Now, I want an apology from her husband for being part of an administration that said only 3 weeks ago that there is no problem with the flu vaccine. My mother, approaching 84, is now on a list to get the precious vaccine.
If the Bush-Cheney team wins, it will only show that you can't underestimate the stupidity of the American voting public.
